"In 1976, the 3 Kamstra brothers founded “Shipping Company Kamstra B.V.”.
Ideally based at the Eemshaven, M.V. Dolphin II left the docks 3 times a day and headed towards the coast of the German Island of Borkum. When it reached the compulsory 3 sea mileages outside the territorial waterways, the closets full with butter, coffee and cookies were opened and the sales could begin. These sailings were the so-called “Butterfahrten”.

From 1981 the company was taken over by mr. Streng. Round the late 80’s, he saw sales dropping and he had to review his assortment. People no longer wanted cheap products, but the demand for luxury goods increased. This lead to a considerable extension of the products offered, such as Whiskey, expensive perfumes, cigarettes and jewellery. The name of these sailings changed into Tax Free Mini Cruise and from then on, the company name was Shipping Company Kamstra Travel B.V.

At the same time, the company started organising short breaks into Holland and (still) focused on the German market. This meant continued existence for Kamstra, as in 1999 the European Commission forbid Tax Free shopping.

Late 90’s “Shipping Company” disappeared out of the company name and from then on, it is Kamstra Travel B.V.

Since 2000 Kamstra Travel B.V. is expanding for new goals. Nowadays Kamstra Travel not only is the biggest incoming tour operator for Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg on the German market, but also operates on the French, Czech and Scandinavian markets as well. In 2003 we started to operate on the English market and many British coach companies now work with us!
