Ambalangoda in the southern Sri Lanka is famous for mask carving, a traditional cottage craft practiced in the southern coastal area, masks are carved out of softwood and painted in attractive colours and are worn during the performance of Sanni and Kolan dances depicting various forms of demons and characters in the contemporary society.
