Miramar Lagoon Tour

Destination: Laguna Miramar, Chiapas, Mexico Swimming, hiking, kayaking

"Day 1: The tour starts in San Cristobal de Las Casas at 7:30 a.m. On the way to the lagoon you will make a short stop in Comitan for breakfast. Upon arriving to the river, a boat will take you upstream (2-3 hrs) to the small village of Zapata. Once all the camping equipment is ready, you will start a two hour hike to reach the edge of the lagoon. During camping preparation and dinner you will have the chance to swim in the clear, blue water of the lagoon and relax in your hammock.
Day 2: The second day will be dedicated to visiting the lagoon and its surroundings. After breakfast canoes will be taken out to go and see ancient rock paintings, then you can enjoy the sun and a good swim. Later in the day you will return to the campsite for lunch, before taking a 20 minute walk through the jungle to visit the Gruta del Mono (Monkey Cave) The more adventurous visitors in the group may choose to continue hiking for about 1 hour to the Laguna de los Cocodrilos (The Crocodile Lagoon). This walk will offer you the chance to be in close touch with nature, listening to its sounds and discover the area’s flora and fauna.
Day 3: After breakfast you will have time for a last swim before starting packing up. Going back along the same route (a bit of hiking, boat trip and transfer back to town by van), you will reach San Cristobal at around 8pm.
