Flying to Yichang, we board our 5-star cruise boat and for three days travel along the most spectacular section of the Yangtse River. Our first shore excursion is a visit to the dam at Maoping after which we pass through the locks of this immense feat of modern engineering. We then cruise to Chongqing through the spectacular ’Three Gorges’ stopping along the way to visit temples and towns and to take a side excursion into some of the small gorges.

After exploring the lively city of Hong Kong, we take an overnight train to Guilin where the rounded limestone peaks of hump-back mountains have inspired poets and painters through the ages. We drift along the Li River to the delightful small town of Yangshuo, where we can enjoy a leisurely bike ride or walk in surrounding villages. The spectacular Longji rice terraces sit tier upon tier climbing up to a staggering 800m. They are home to the Dong and Yao minority peoples whom we are likely to encounter on our walks through the paddies.

After breakfast, enjoy a pedicab tour of the Hutongs, the ??ld city??neighborhood of narrow lanes and courtyard gardens hidden behind Beijing?? modern fa?ade. Visit Prince Gong?? Palace, the Drum Tower, and old-style courtyard houses still inhabited by Beijing residents. Transfer to the airport for your midday flight to Xi??n, and transfer to the Hyatt Regency (or similar). Enjoy a brief city tour including the ancient city walls, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Bell Tower.
