Spellbound Glowworm & Cave Tours Waitomo Caves, North Island, New Zealand"Spellbound, New Zealand is locally owned and operated by Pete and Libby Chandler with the help of their wonderful and professional staff, Norm, Savitri, Annette and Louisa.
Pete, an enthusiastic caver, started visiting Waitomo in the early 1980s. He completed his degree in Earth Sciences in the mid 80s, and moved permanently to Waitomo Caves after a stint of cycle touring around the world.
After working as a cave guide for the Waitomo Glowworm Cave for about a year, Pete was convinced an opportunity existed to develop a cave adventure. In 1987 with support from local cave owners, he began a tour he dubbed Black Water Rafting which involved floating on tyre tubes through a cave in darkness.
